Light-duty geared products dominate the market

Light-duty geared products were the most dominant product category, accounting for approximately 56% of the overall market and generating nearly $7.2 billion in revenue in 2025. Light-duty geared products are also expected to be the fastest growing product category over the forecast period, with large and important industries such as food & beverage and packaging machinery supporting growth. Historically, these industries also demonstrated strong resilience on the demand side for light-duty products.

Heavy-duty geared products are the second largest product category, accounting for approximately 26% of the market. However, growth for this product category remains subdued, mainly due to a downturn in the investment cycle of heavy industries.

On the other hand, Planetary geared products – a smaller market segment relatively speaking – are expected to maintain steady growth over the forecast period, primarily driven by strong demand in the high-performing wind turbine industry.

Expected long-term growth across all regions

All regions are expected to continue to grow over the long term, with smaller regions having more headroom for stronger growth. The largest region within the market is APAC, which accounts for approximately 45% of global sales, generating $5.7 billion in revenue in 2025. Growth in the region was driven by the recovery of the Chinese market and rapid expansion in India and Southeast Asia. The Japanese market also delivered solid growth in 2025. China is the largest single country market for geared motors and industrial gears, accounting for 31% of global market revenue.

In addition, the Americas was the fastest growing regional market in 2025, growing at 4.9%. The United States is the largest country market in the Americas and the second largest globally, accounting for 16% of global revenue. Meanwhile, the Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) market increased by 3.7% during 2025, which is primarily attributed to foreign exchange movements, including significant appreciation of the Euro against the US dollar.

Samantha Mou, Senior Analyst at Interact Analysis, adds: “2025 was a positive year for the global motors and industrial gears market, with substantial recovery and 4.2% year-on-year growth. We have revised our market size estimates for the geared motors and industrial gears market upwards following stronger than anticipated downstream demand recovery. As global manufacturing investment gradually stabilizes, supply chain localization initiatives in certain regions and investments in new production capacity are translating into increasing demand for transmission products. We expect the geared motors and industrial gears market to maintain steady growth out to 2031.”

‘Hidden’ projects are skewing the success of Chinese warehouse automation vendors
The growing presence of Chinese automation suppliers is a notable trend. It represents a significant strategic threat to established Western warehouse automation vendors, especially in regions where competition and labor laws are less regulated. One of the largest contributors to this are ‘hidden projects,’ in which contracts are awarded through direct China-to-China procurement channels and take place outside the public domain. This increases the risk of Western OEMs being excluded from opportunities before a competitive tender process even begins.
